therefore, that the medium exerts no effect on•g traing•h . Sort and quantity of nitrogen sources None of those 10 strains could grow in the rmedium containing Lglutamlc acid, L-aspartic acid and L-methionlne (2). Upon examining the nitrogen requirement of about 60 wild Flexner type dysentery bacilli , even the most exacting strains of which were found to grow in the medium containing L-glutamic acid, L-aspartic acid, L-methionine , L-tryptophane, and L-cystine. It was found that the 10 strains of Shiga dysentery bacilli described above could be also grown in this medium . Each amino acid was withheld in turn from this medium and the growth was observed . Sorts and quantities of nitrogen sources tested were described in Table 1.

Studies on the nutritional requirements of bacteria. II. On the nutrition of Shigella dysenteriae.
The synthetic medium for Shigella dysenteriae which has hitherto been known contains many amino acids and also niacin-amide, although the necessity of which remains obscure (5, 11,12) . We have been examining the process of the evolution of the bacterial nutrition (or the retroevolution), especially about the nitrogen source. It is the purpose of this paper to report the nutritional nitrogen so...

The National Institute of Health of Japan, Tokyo (Received for publication, March 30, 1950) Evolutional steps of -nitrogen requirements of bacteria have been set up as follows. N2-N03-NH4-amino nitrogen-amino nitrogen+growth factor. Dysentery bacilli belong to the last step (3, 4, 6). As shown in the preceding report (5), Shigella dysenteriae (Shiga type) belongs to the transition zone between ...

The nanomaterials have important application in different field of science such as biology and pharmacology, which draws the attention of biologists towards this field of study more than before. As the worldwide mortality rate is high due to the pathogens and especially because of the bacteria associated dysenteriae and the antibacterial effect of metal nanoparticles is well known from centurie...

متن کاملNutritional requirements of shigellae for growth in a minimal medium.
Most (about 81%) of the clinical isolates of shigellae that were tested failed to grow in a minimal medium. Of the auxotrophic isolates belonging to the four Shigella species, 98% grew in a minimal medium containing methionine, nicotinic acid, and tryptophan. The combination of methionine and tryptophan appears to be an obligatory requirement for Shigella dysenteriae serotype 1 strains, while t...
